SSI recipients two in November because of calendar quirk

SSI recipients two in November because of calendar quirk

Some Social Security beneficiaries are scheduled to soon get the first of three checks – yes, three – in the month of November.

It’s not a mistake, just an oddity of the calendar. Those who also get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get three checks in the month of November.

Here’s the lowdown: SSI recipients should get their November payment on Nov. 1. Then, SSI recipients will get their regular Social Security retirement benefits on a Wednesday in November, based on the Social Security Administration’s usual schedule.

Later in the month, SSI recipients will also get their December SSI check. The reason? Those checks usually come out on the first business day of each month. Since Dec. 1 is a Sunday, December SSI payments will be distributed on Friday, Nov. 29, according to the SSA calendar.

Why would SSI recipients get two checks in November?

More than 7.4 million Americans get SSI, which provides payments to people with limited income resources, beyond traditional Social Security benefits. Because of the way the days of the month play out in December, SSI recipients will get their November payment on Nov. 1 and their monthly payment for December a bit early, on Friday, Nov. 29, according to the SSA calendar.
